Fenland Council Business Rates

I own a property that has a shop on the ground floor and a flat above. I live in the flat and rent out the shop. Business Rates seem to be clearly defined yet Fenland Council seem to make a hash of it every time there is a change of use.  If the rateable value is less than £12,000 (Mine is £7,900) AND This is the only property that the business runs from THEN 100% Business Rates Relief is applied. Also, if the property is vacant due to a tenant leaving, then the landlord has 3 months to find another tenant. During that time, again 100% Business Rates Relief is applied.  https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-business-rate-relief/empty-property-relief For Fenland Council, Business Rates and Council Tax are handled by Anglia Revenues Partnership (ARP) but they use the same rules. https://www.angliarevenues.gov.uk/services/businessrates/relief_exemption/smallbusinessrelief.cfm https://www.angliarevenues.gov.uk/services/businessrates/emptyproperties/ So, My last tenant leaves on the last da...

Misophonia - when doves cry

To me, I cannot understand why there isn't national outrage at this noisy behaviour. But I do have Misophonia. Noises impact me where others barely register it. In this case I am talking about Eurasian Collared doves. From 6am to 9pm they are screaming at me almost non-stop. You must have heard them, they sound like this : The comments on that YouTube video say how comforting that sound is, or it's their favorite bird noise. HOW! It is so loud, it penetrates walls, roofs and windows. It causes me so much stress, but when I mention this to people they just don't get what I am saying. If that was a human being on the roof top, chanting the same 6 or so words every day for 12 hours, they would be reported and removed. Oh no, not these birds, they are allowed to do whatever they wish. If you like the sound you can check out more here  https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Eurasian_Collared-Dove/sounds#

Green, Red, Yellow - go away BBC

What is with the BBC and their annoying habit of plastering messages on the screen to use the i-Player. Their technology is not intelligent - it will display the GREEN button window every time you switch to the channel regardless if the program has only just started like in the above photo or half way through. It even shows before the program has started. so what is that for - to watch the program that has finished or to start watching the program that hasn't started yet. I have asked the BBC how can I switch off the messages as they are not useful to me, just annoying. Some people I am sure love them and use them. Great, but I want the option to turn them off. BBC's answer is to use the YELLOW button to switch off the message. And it does, but you have to press the yellow button EVERY SINGLE TIME. For a lot of BBC programs I purposely miss the start of a program because they wish to spend the first couple of minutes spoiling it by showing what will be in the program. Agh! So...
